Media Release: Live Broadcast of Safety Net Review Decision
Australian Industrial Relations Commission President Justice Geoffrey Giudice today approved arrangements for a live broadcast of the decision on the ACTU's Living Wage claim.
Justice Giudice, who heads a seven-Member Full Bench that conducted the Safety Net Review, is to read a statement outlining the decision at 10am (AEST) in Melbourne tomorrow (2 May).
Under arrangements with the ABC, audio of the statement will be broadcast live on the ABC website, the Public Record, NewsRadio and various ABC Radio stations. The audio will also be made available to other media outlets. A link to the Public Record site will be available from the AIRC's Home Page.
Justice Giudice said he decided to allow the broadcast because of the significant public interest in the decision.
The text of the statement and the full decision will be available on the AIRC website shortly after 10am tomorrow. The address is http://www.airc.gov.au. The address for the Public Record site is http://www.abc.net.au/public.
The ACTU's Living Wage claim was filed in November last year and seeks an increase in federal award pay rates of $28 per week up to $492.20 and a 5.7 per cent increase for rates above this level.
Written submissions in the case were filed in February this year and oral submissions heard in March.
